Write to The Regents and the PNW Bands

2007

12.23.07  Billy McPherson, that incredible talent who started his career with the Regents of Tacoma fell ill and was in a coma for a few days.  He is awake now and slowly recovering.  Your best wishes and prayers for a speedy recovery will be most welcomed.   Sammy... The Web Slave

2.9.07 -  It is official!  After more than 40 years, The Regents will be going into the studio to record a CD.  Stay tuned for more news on this 2007-2008 effort.  The results should be a great Flashback to the 60's!!!!

2006

10.12.06 -  Today is the 8th birthday of The Regents website and the 43rd year of the band!  Has it been that long?

8.5.06    The Regents joined The Wayback Machine, Fabulous Wailers, The Tim Hall Band, Sky River and Rock and Roll Magic, plus many other musicians for an exciting musical weekend.  The Regents were represented by original member Rich Liebe, Billy McPherson and Sammy Carlson, and the son of Richard Rossiter, Raoul Rossiter on drums.  For the first time in the history of The Regents, BIlly McPherson sang sonething other than his zaney rendition of Louie Louie.

6.23.06 The Regents, Wailers, Rock n Roll Magic and many other bands will be gathering the first weekend in August for a weekend=long music gathering to show our appreciation to our fans and the support over the years.  The event is FREE!... and will take place the week4end of 4, 5 and 6 August just South of Tacoma and Fort Lewis, Washington.  Information about the event, band and activities are at Rock Out - Camp Out 2006,  http://pnwbands.com/rockoutcampout06.html

1.28.06 -  The Regents are plannig on another musical reunion in the South Sound area in August 2006, somewhere near Tacoma.  Information will be posted on this event as it is received.  Stay tuned!

1.23.06 -  Our Web Slave, Sammy,is back to updating the websites... The Regents.net and PNWBands.com.  He is settled down in his job back on active duty with the US Army at Fort Meade, Maryland.

2005

5.29.05 -  Our Web Slave, Sammy, will be slowing down on new and updated band pages for a couple of weeks until he is finished processing back into the Army starting on Sunday the 29th of May.  Yes, somebody found something useful for him to do besides making band pages and called him back to duty after 18 years of retirement from the US Army.

2004

8.21.04 -  We have finally removed the NW Band tribute pages from TheRegents.net and placed them all at PNWBands.com.  This freed up nearly 100 meg of space on TheRegents.net so we can place more sound clips that will play on PNWBands.com.

8.15.04 -  The gathering for 2004 had to be scrubbed, but watch for 2005 at the City of Forks!

4.19.04 We are having to move the Mountain Music 2004 Musician Family Reunion to a new venue.  Apparently the Mason County Government wants to stick their hands out for $$$ for us to have a legal reunion.  We are looking for a more hospitable venue, particularly we have no budget other than what we saved out of our pockets the past several months and through generous offers for equipment and other goodies.  Do you know of a place that can handle all of us with little or no trouble???

2.27.04 There will be a reunion of the NW musicians and their families the weekend of 14 and 15 August 2004 at Camp Cushman, Washington.  We will have two days of entertainment and fun.  If you were a NW musician from the time period of this web site and would like to come as an individual, with your old band, or even with your new band, check out the information page at Mountain Music 2004.  Contact our webmaster@pnwbands.com if you want to perform or just want more information. No one gets paid for this other than us having a whole lot of fun that weekend.  Musicians bring something for the pot luck table if you want to join us for the feed bag.  Band and sound equipment will be supplied.  The public can come watch us too, but they are on their own for food.  We are working with the USO to make it an event to support them through voluntary donations.

2003

12.11.03 Another Regent has been found!  Max Harned who was with Richard AFKAD Rossiter in the Columbians and an early horn player for the Regents found the website and wrote in!  Max was also in the Henchmen

8.17.03Want to see the Regents at their first public gig in Tacoma since the 60's?  We WILL be performing as a band at the 1,000 Guitar Louie Louie Fest at Cheney Stadium on Sunday, the 24th of August.  See you there!

8.17.03Our webmaster will be taking two weeks off between August 23rd and September 6th to perform at the 1,000 Guitar Louie Fest and at another fest over Labor Day Weekend.  That is why he may not be answering e-mail during that time.

8.17.03  -  W32.Blaster.Worm Strikes PNWBands and TheRegents Webmaster

The Blaster Worm snuck into our Webmaster's computer through a Microsoft Windows vulnerability.  It is all clean now... so clean that we lost all our e-mail traffic and address books.  We wiped the drive clean and started all over.

If you sent an e-mail to our Webmaster or Sam Carlson before the 14th of August and he has not replied yet, please send your e-mail again.

Hey Microsoft!!!   Do you understand the concept of "Do it right the first time"?  You are making an Apple-Mac look better all the time.

4.16.03 -  Today we found Sue Isekite who sang with Genie Allen in the Regents.  What a great day!  Welcome back to the band, Sue!  We missed you..

1.23.03 -  We almost lost another member of the Regents recently.  Richard AFKAD Rossiter was involved in accident while racing one of his bicycles and was in a coma for several days.  I can't remember all the bones he did break throughout his body.  It seems the list of bones he did not break would be shorter.  The doctors were amazed that he survived at all.  It was his superb physical conditioning that greatly contributed to his survival.  Get well, Richard!!!

2002

10.12.02 -  Today is the 4th birthday of The Regents website and the 39th year of the band!  Has it been that long?

9.1.02 -  The Regents participated in a Northwest music bash and reunion.  Photos of the gathering are posted at Reunion 2002

76.8.02 -  Last night we mirrored the entire series of the Northwest band tribute pages over to PNWBands.com  You can still find them at TheRegents.net/nwtributes.html or just to got http://PNWBands.com.

4.24.02 -  We received some very sad news today.  The Regents guitar player, occasional front man and our friend, Terry Bailey, lost his battle with cancer on Saturday, 20 April 2002.  Rest in Peace, Buddy.  We miss you.

2001

10.12.01 -  Today is the 3rd birthday of The Regents website and the 38th year of the band!  Has it been that long?

10.11.01 -  We added a new search engine powered by Google that will allow you to search the website for the bands you are looking for.  The search engines are located at http://pnwbands.com/search.html and at http://theregents.net/search.html.

9.14.01 -  Please visit our memorial to the events of September 11th, 2001.

8.28.01 -  It seems like good news comes in bunches.  Gary Udovich, the last musician to join the Regents was located today!  The only "missing persons" from the band are now Larry Olsen and Sue Isekite.

8.26.01 -  Well, we had another GREAT DAY!!!  We found Chuck Doten, our drummer from 65 to 67.  Chuck is doing well.  He had a great music career up through the early 80's or so then found a day job.  We are looking forward to chatting with him more, and hopefully dragging him to a future reunion.  Many thanks to Alan Meyer for giving Sammy enough sketchy 20 year old information to track Chuck down.

6.01.01 -  The Regents.net NW Band tribute pages won another award as Bands of the Great Pacific Northwest.  This time it is the Golden Web Award for 2001-2001.  Many thanks to the Golden Web Award folks and to our initial web designer How We Were Designs.

5.25.01 -  We found another lost member of the group, Sandy Faye, through her brother, Walt Rattenbury.  Walt was a musician with the Enchanters, Titans, and Stingrays.

3.31.01 - The Regents website has won another award for excellence.  Earlier, we were awarded the Legacy Choice Awards for the basic Regents Band website.  Just today the website was awarded the Legacy Choice Award for the 1960's NW band pages.

3.11.01 - The Regents and PNW Bands started a new feature.  If you are a NW musician looking for old band buddies, send us a note regarding who you are looking for.  If you can help find these "missing" musicians, stop by at our "Where Are You?" page.

2.10.01 - Sammy, our Webmaster, is finally catching up on the band tribute pages.  The NW Band tribute pages are growing.  Already, over 400 NW bands are 'memorialized'.  If you have more band suggestions or information please send it our way.  Some of the band information is incomplete, so please feel free to pitch in and complete the pages.

1.13.01 - New Years Day started off with a BIG BANG!  Sammy was up in Washington on business and pleasure.  The pleasure was going over to our newest member's house (Larry Parypa) for a jam that went for seven straight hours.  Of the Regents were Dave Roland (drums), Larry Parypa (guitar) and Sammy Carlson (bass).  Also joining the jam were Bill Dean (Statesmen and early Sonics drummer), Bill Cleland on Guitar and bass, Bobby Keyes on Keyboards, Gale Bass on vocals, and Steve Sarandos (Statesmen) on saxophone.  We never thought it possible to play seven straight hours and not get tired.  We had a blast!

2000

8.11.00 - Another great day for the Regents today.  We heard from Genie Allen who sang with the Regents along with Sue Isekite in 64 and 65.  Now to find Sue Isekite!

5.2.00 -  The Regents 2000 gig happened at the Elks Club in Puyallup on Saturday, the 29th of April 2000.  Rich, Billy, Dave, Sammy all made it and we were blessed with the added talents of Larry Parypa (Sonics) on guitar.  We gave Larry his own set of "Regents" business cards and finally drafted him as a bona fide member of the band.  We put on a two hour show and were rocking the place.  Billy banged the keyboards and blew his golden sax.  Dave kept his traditional steady sharp rocking beat with Sammy on bass.  Larry and Rich blessed the crowd with their wailing guitars while everyone pitched in on vocals.  More information about this, the first live performance of the original Regents in 35 years, will be posted as the video and pictures come in.

Many thanks to Highland Hill Music Center, 6814 6th Avenue, Tacoma, WA 98406, for helping us fill out our musical instrument needs.

3.27.00 - Back in the good ol' days of 60's rock, there were several groups called The Regents.  There was the Regents of Tacoma.  Then of course there was the doo wop group that had the early '60's hits with Barbara Ann, Runaround, and Liar.  The old doo wop group is still out there performing.  You can find them on the internet and their tour schedule through Mars Talent Agency.  In 1965, we heard about a California version of the Regents who did some recording and may possibly be the same Regents who were the house band during the early weeks of either the Dating or Newlywed game shows.  In 1999 we were shown a photograph of a Seattle version that we did not know existed.  They are memorialized at The Regents - Seattle.  There is also a web memorial to a British Columbia Regents.

1.13.00  - So far, Y2K has been very good to us.  All within the space of less than 30 days we found Chris Isakson, who was with both the original Regents & Regents II, and just today, Terry Bailey.  Chris has already provided a biographical page.  Let's see what Terry comes up with.

1999

12.28.99 -TheRegents.net  It is finally a reality!.. We are entering the new millennium and century with a new domain name.  We will have individual e-mail addresses for all the band members.  We will also keep the old site on Tripod for those who don't like changing all their bookmarks.

11.02.99 -The Regents have a new toll free number you can call to send a fax or leave a voice message. 877-261-1844

9.9.99 - The 1999 annual gathering of the Regents is over.  A great time was had by all.  Richard Rossiter finally showed up from Colorado.  We are already planning a BIG EVENT for the 2000 gathering.  We found the "sixth" member of the '63-'65 group, Dick Foreman.  Dick replaced Dave Roland for a while on vocals after Dave had a throat operation.  Dick was gracious enough to ask Sammy to sit in with his band on bass for a few songs last month in Washington.  Thanks guys... Sammy needs to feel wanted from time to time.  Hopefully we will have a personal biographical page about Dick on the site soon.

05.27.99 -   Rich Liebe, Regents lead guitarist, is taking off for another grand adventure.  The lucky dog is going to Europe for a couple of years, but promises to make it back for our annual reunions.

01.19.99  -  The Regents added their two-bits worth about the Regents in an interview with Japan's Hitomi Ishikawa.  Check it out in the "Links" page.

01.11.99  - Happy New Year!   Okay, the cat is out of the bag!!!  (See Guestbook)  There is some talk going on that original members of the Regents may collaborate with other old Northwest rockers to do an updated CD album of the music we all heard in the Pacific Northwest back in the 60's.  So far it is just talk, but if anything comes of this we will let you know.

1998

10.12.98  -  Today is the first day of the Official Regents of Tacoma Website.  If you would like to get in contact with the Regents (this is the e-mail address until all of the personal e-mail addresses are posted) please write to: Webmaster@PNWBands.com
